Cogheart by Peter Bunzl

Once again I’m posting one of my favourite books with full marks. This is a steampunk adventure set in the past with mechanicals and mechanimals (mechanical animals).

The main reason why I love this book is because I love anything steampunk or Victorian futuristic. This book is funny (mostly because of Malkin the sarcastic mechanimal fox) and keeps you on the edge of you seat whilst being very heartfelt and understanding. There’s quite a bit of engineering work in this book as well and is quite interesting to read about. The plot in these books (there are 3 so far) are almost impossible to guess, making it a great read!

The main character is probably Lily Grantham but it does change as the second one is more about her friend Robert Townsend. I enjoyed the qualities of these characters as they are clumsy and make mistakes like all kids (including me).

Peter Bunzl is an English animator, author and film-maker. I went to see him at the Hay Festival last year I think. He talked about how he got the idea for his book and all the research he did into subjects such as clockwork and engineering. Overall I believe he is a phenomenal writer and that his character is reflected in his writing.

*Just a short footnote, sorry I haven’t posted for a looooooong time (like 6 months), my new years resolution is to post a review around twice a month….maybe…
