Okay so 2024 was a pretty shite year for reading for me. Between starting uni and finishing A levels I feel like I didn’t have a lot of time to actually read for pleasure so a lot of these books are gonna be the same as last years and the list may have just gotten a bit longer too because I have no self control, a waterstones loyalty card and a student loan to use ‘responsibly’. Without further ado, here are 2025’s candidates hoping to finally be picked up off the bookshelf….
- Space: The Human Story by Tim Peake
- Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
- You Are a Mathematician by David G. Wells
- Spectrum Women: Walking to the Beat of Autism by Various Authors
- Cain’s Jawbone by Torquemada
- Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon
- David Bowie Made Me Gay by Darryl W. Bullock
- The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness
- Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter
- Bitter by Akwaeke Emezi
- The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
- Leaves of Grass by Wal Whitman
- How Pale the Winter Has Made Us by Adam Sewell
- Good Morning, Midnight by Jean Rhys
- One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
- Yellowface by R. F. Kuang
- Children of Dune by Frank Herbert (and Dune 4-6 too)
- Surely You’re Joking Mr. Feynman by Richard P. Feynman
- The Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki
- Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
- Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
- Bellies by Nicola Dinan

This list is 81% fictional works, 21% are considered ‘classics’, 13% are over 500 pages and 20% contain less than 300 pages. Last year I started racking my reading using StoryGraph which honestly is a great app that gives you all sorts of statistics on your reading. You can set goals, write reviews ad track your progress which is honestly really cool. With all this info tracked by StoryGraph I know I read 12 books last year with a total of 3,634 pages. I read mostly contemporary, historical, literary and romance novels and averaged 7 days reading a book with most of my reading happening in January.
Anyway, hoping to do better this year bu we will see how it goes because I’ve only read two books so far…
